IG Disu Orders Tight Security Across Nigeria for Eid-el-Kabir Festivities

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed a nationwide security clampdown ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, deploying tactical teams and intelligence operatives to key public locations.
Disu extended his greetings to the Muslim faithful on Wednesday, praying for peace, unity and national prosperity, while assuring Nigerians of the force’s readiness to protect lives and property during the festive period.
Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, said in a statement that Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders across all states and the Federal Capital Territory have been ordered to strengthen proactive policing measures.
The deployment will cover Eid prayer grounds, highways, motor parks, recreational centres, critical national assets and other crowded public spaces expected to witness heavy human traffic. Officers will carry out coordinated patrols, surveillance operations and intelligence-led stop-and-search duties to deter criminal activity and ensure quick response to any security threat.
The IGP called on Nigerians to remain watchful and report suspicious persons, unattended items or unusual gatherings around celebration venues. He stressed that citizen vigilance is crucial, noting that a single timely report could prevent a tragedy.
Emergency contact lines — 08057000001, 08057000002, 09133333785 and 09133333786 have been released for the public to reach the police. Disu reaffirmed the force’s commitment to public safety and national security throughout the holiday.
