IG Disu Vows Police Won’t Back Down as Force Honours 10 Officers Killed in Kebbi

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to protecting lives and property, declaring that the force will not be intimidated by criminal elements despite recent losses in the line of duty.

Disu made the statement during a memorial parade held in Abuja to honour 10 officers of the Police Special Intervention Squad who were killed during an operation against suspected bandits in Kebbi State.

According to the police chief, the officers lost their lives on August 10 while intercepting a heavily armed group believed to be moving from Kebbi towards Zamfara State. The encounter resulted in the death of 10 officers, while two others sustained injuries.

He noted that the operation dealt a significant blow to the attackers, with at least 17 suspected bandits neutralised and several motorcycles destroyed during the exchange.

The IG praised the fallen officers for their courage and dedication, describing their sacrifice as a testament to their commitment to safeguarding the nation.

He assured Nigerians that the police would continue working closely with the military, other security agencies, state governments and local communities to combat banditry, terrorism and other security threats across the country.

Disu also extended condolences to the families of the deceased officers, pledging that the force would continue to support them and ensure their loved ones are remembered for their service.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Special Intervention Squad, Abayomi Shogunle, commended the officers for standing their ground during the operation. He said assessments carried out after the incident indicated that the attackers suffered heavy casualties.

The memorial parade was attended by senior police officers and family members of the fallen personnel, who were honoured for their bravery and sacrifice in service to the nation.
