Igbokoda NAF Crash: Aiyedatiwa Says No Survivor After Visiting Site

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, says no survivor has been found in the Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Igbokoda.
Aiyedatiwa spoke on Wednesday, October 7, after visiting the crash site with personnel of Navy, Air Force, divers, NEMA, SEMA and locals involved in recovery since Monday.
“Unfortunately, there is no single survivor in that aircraft as we speak today,” he said.
The ATR-42 aircraft, with 32 persons on board, crashed into a swamp 200 metres away from the community. The governor said the pilot’s manoeuvre averted a bigger catastrophe.
“From engagement with the people, they said they could see the aircraft coming down with the sound of a bad engine… but the pilot was able to manoeuvre and landed just 200 metres away from the community. It went straight into the ditch, a swampy area so soft that it looked like the aircraft had been submerged into the mud,” he said.
He said recovery operations continue to retrieve victims and determine cause of crash.
