Ikogosi Resort Defends Fee Increase After Clashes, Outlines Management Role

IKOGOSI, Ekiti State – The management of Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort has publicly addressed the recent protests and unrest at the popular tourist destination, justifying a controversial gate fee increase and clarifying its operational role.

The resort, which has been the scene of clashes between security personnel and demonstrators, is managed by Glocient Hospitality, a subsidiary of Cavista Holdings. In an official statement, management confirmed it operates the site under a long-term concession agreement with the Ekiti State Government, a partnership established in 2022.

The central issue, a 100% increase in the entry fee from ₦5,000 to ₦10,000, was described as a necessary measure. Management stated the hike is essential to maintain service standards, ensure visitor safety, and protect the resort’s environment, especially during periods of high traffic.

“The adjustment supports critical operational needs,” the statement read, citing costs for additional staff, enhanced safety protocols, utilities, environmental upkeep, and overall capacity management due to rising visitor numbers.

The announcement follows days of significant public outcry. Tourists and local residents have protested the new pricing, also calling for more respectful treatment from security agencies on the grounds. Tensions peaked earlier this week when a conflict between protesters and security forces turned chaotic. A widely circulated video from the incident showed a man being aided by fellow tourists after reportedly falling unresponsive.

While reaffirming a commitment to preserving Ikogosi’s heritage and providing a “safe and premium” experience, the management acknowledged the importance of public access. They pledged to review feedback to “ensure an appropriate balance between access and sustainability.”

The Ekiti State Government has been notified of the ongoing situation. Resort management has assured that guest safety and dignity are top priorities, promising continued evaluation of operations to meet visitor expectations.

The situation remains a point of contention as the resort seeks to balance financial sustainability with public accessibility at one of the state’s key tourist attractions.
