Ilorin Building Collapse: Gov. AbdulRazaq Visits Injured Victims, Assures Them of Govt Support

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has expressed sadness over the collapse of a three-storey building in the Popo Giwa area of Ilorin, describing the incident as a tragic and deeply painful development.

The Governor, in a statement following the incident, extended his condolences to families affected by the building collapse and disclosed that he had visited injured victims to assess their condition and wish them a speedy recovery.

According to him, the state government is providing the victims with the necessary medical care and support to ensure their stabilisation and prompt recovery.

Governor AbdulRazaq disclosed that a government delegation led by the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, had earlier visited the scene to assess the situation and sympathise with members of the affected community.

He commended personnel involved in the rescue operation, including the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency (KWASEMA), the Kwara State Fire Service, officials of Ilorin West Local Government, and community volunteers for their coordinated response.

The Governor said the collective effort demonstrated the spirit of solidarity among Kwarans during moments of tragedy and hardship.

The Governor also urged residents and stakeholders in the construction industry to take safety protocols and building standards seriously, describing the incident as another reminder of the importance of adhering to approved construction regulations.

“Again, this is another pointer to the fact that we must take safety protocols seriously in construction,” the Governor said.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upholding construction standards and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.

Governor AbdulRazaq also prayed for the repose of those who lost their lives in the incident and asked Almighty Allah to comfort their families.
