Imo Approves ₦25bn Judges’ Quarters and ₦1.9bn Digital Infrastructure Projects

The Imo State Executive Council has approved ₦25 billion for the construction of judicial quarters alongside ₦1.9 billion for new computer-based test (CBT) centres and a smart digital signage system.

The decisions were finalized during an executive council meeting chaired by Governor Hope Uzodimma in Owerri, as announced by the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation, and Strategy, Declan Emelumba.

Under the judiciary welfare initiative, ₦25 billion will be allocated toward building 40 residential duplexes equipped with recreational facilities for state judicial officers.

The state government also approved ₦1.9 billion to establish four new CBT centres across the Orlu Zone to facilitate access to JAMB examinations and other computerized testing. An initial outlay of ₦900 million has been earmarked to begin construction immediately at two pilot sites: Bishop Shanahan Okoye Secondary School and Community Secondary School in Omuma.

Additionally, the executive council authorized the creation of Imo Signage Asset Management Limited to manage a smart digital billboard initiative through a public-private partnership.

According to the Commissioner for Digital Economy and E-Government, Chimezie Amadi, the digital signage rollout will utilize Internet of Things-enabled infrastructure and will be fully funded by private investors at no direct cost to the state government.
