Imo Police Commissioner Pledges Robust Security for Upcoming Elections

Imo State Commissioner of Police for Imo State Command, Audu Garba Bosso and Imo State Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC, Chukwuemeka Christopher

The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, has reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring a secure environment for all electoral activities across the state. This assurance was given on Wednesday during a meeting with the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Chukwuemeka Christopher, at the police headquarters in Owerri.

During the discussions, Commissioner Bosso promised that the police would deploy sustained patrols and implement proactive measures to protect INEC personnel, facilities, and the entire voting process. Emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility, he encouraged residents to actively participate by providing timely and credible information to law enforcement, citing the “see something, say something” initiative.

“We are ready to provide adequate security for INEC personnel, facilities, and all electoral activities across Imo State,” Bosso stated. “We will ensure a conducive environment for free, fair, peaceful, and credible elections.”

In response, the newly appointed REC, Mr. Chukwuemeka Christopher, praised the police for their historical support of electoral operations in the state. He highlighted the importance of a continued partnership between the two agencies and specifically requested strengthened security coverage for INEC offices and storage facilities.

Given the security challenges that have impacted the state in recent years, the coordination between electoral bodies and security agencies remains a critical factor in ensuring the integrity and safety of the upcoming polls.
