Imo Police Officers Face Trial Over Extortion Video

The Imo State Police Command has initiated orderly room trials for seven personnel implicated in a viral video showing misconduct, including extortion and unprofessional behavior, during a joint task force operation at Seven-and-a-Half Junction in Obowo Local Government Area.
The incident, captured discreetly by a traveller on Saturday, sparked widespread outrage and prompted the police to take swift action. According to Henry Okoye, police spokesperson in the state, the trial aims to address allegations of harassment and extortion of passengers by operatives from various security agencies.
The seven personnel facing disciplinary action are: Inspector Eyo Udo (Anti-Vice Unit), Inspector Peter Nweke (Rapid Response Squad), Inspector Ita Asuquo (Search and Flush), Sergeant Chukwuka Ekwueme (Anti-Vice Unit), Police Constable Onuwa Samuel (Anti-Vice Unit), Police Constable Patchris David (Anti-Vice Unit), and Police Constable Amos Sunny (Anti-Vice Unit).
Okoye assured the public that the disciplinary process would be thorough, transparent, and in line with Nigeria Police Force regulations, emphasizing the command’s commitment to accountability and professionalism. The outcome of the trial is expected to be made public in due course.
