INEC Unveils 2.34 Million Voter Register for Osun Governorship Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has officially presented the electronic voter register to political parties ahead of the governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.
According to the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oluwatoyin Babalola, a total of 2,339,233 voters have been registered to participate in the upcoming poll. This figure accounts for the 1,954,800 voters from the 2023 general elections, supplemented by registrations and transfers recorded during the 2025/2026 Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
In addition to the voter register, the commission confirmed it has received 95% of the required non-sensitive election materials. These supplies have already been distributed across the state’s 30 local government areas to ensure logistical readiness.
During a stakeholders’ dialogue held in Osogbo, Babalola emphasized the commission’s commitment to conducting a credible election. She noted that extensive training programs are currently underway for electoral officers, ad hoc staff, and security personnel. These sessions are designed to ensure that all individuals involved in the process perform their duties with optimal professionalism.
The commission has also opened its portal for the recruitment of various election officials, including presiding officers and supervisory staff. With 14 political parties officially fielding candidates for the governorship race, INEC reiterated its focus on inclusive and orderly electoral administration.
