IPCR Urges Nigerians to Embrace Peace, Unity Amid Security Challenges

The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has called on Nigerians to embrace peace, unity, and national reconciliation as Christians across the country celebrate Easter.

In an Easter message signed by its Director-General, Joseph Ochogwu, on Saturday in Abuja, the institute extended warm greetings to Christians, describing the season as one that reflects sacrifice, redemption, and hope.

The IPCR noted that Easter, which commemorates the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, symbolizes victory over adversity, renewal of life, and the triumph of light over darkness. The institute urged Christians to use the period to pray for peace, tranquility, and harmony in the country, especially in light of ongoing security challenges.

“At this critical time in our national life, we urge all Christians to use the Easter period to offer prayers for peace, tranquility and harmony in Nigeria,” the statement read.

The institute expressed concern over recent incidents of violence in parts of the country, including Plateau State, Kaduna State, and Maiduguri, describing them as unfortunate and a cause for collective reflection and unity. It extended heartfelt condolences to affected families and communities, and pledged solidarity with victims and those grieving.

The IPCR emphasized that Easter represents hope and urged Nigerians, regardless of religion or ethnicity, to embrace peaceful coexistence and mutual respect. “Let us be our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers, fostering understanding, compassion and unity in our communities,” it said.

The institute also called on citizens to remain vigilant and security-conscious while supporting lawful efforts to protect lives and property, stressing that peacebuilding is a collective responsibility.

The IPCR reaffirmed its commitment to promoting dialogue, strengthening conflict resolution mechanisms, and supporting initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable peace nationwide. It expressed hope that the Easter season would bring healing to the nation, comfort to those affected by violence, and renewed optimism for a peaceful and united Nigeria.
