Jos Inland Container Depot Nears Completion, Says Nigerian Shippers Council

The Nigerian Shippers Council has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the Jos Inland Container Depot in Plateau State, with support from the federal government. Dr. Pius Akuta, the Executive Secretary and CEO of the council, made this assurance during a one-day seminar in Jos, Plateau State, emphasizing that the project is nearing completion.

Speaking on the sidelines of the seminar themed “Understanding the structure and functions of regulatory agencies in the port system,” Akuta expressed confidence that the depot will be operational soon, noting that it has already reached 65% completion. He cited President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to completing and operationalizing the project, which was gazetted in 2006.

The Jos Inland Dry Port is expected to bring shipping services closer to shippers in the hinterlands, support individual export businesses, and generate revenue for the North-Central region and the federal government. Dr. Jeremiah Okoliko, the Zonal Coordinator representing Akuta, highlighted the project’s strategic importance in boosting exports and enhancing internally-generated revenue for Plateau State and the federal government.
