Kannywood Actress Jailed Six Months for Mutilating Naira
Justice S.M. Shuaibu of the Federal High Court in Kano has sentenced Kannywood actress Saadatu Mohammed Inuwa, popularly known as Samha, to six months imprisonment for tampering with the Nigerian currency.
The conviction was handed down on Friday, February 13, 2026, following her arraignment on a one-count charge of mutilating a ₦1,000 note, an offence contrary to Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007.
According to a statement posted on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s X handle, the charge against Inuwa stated that she tampered with the Naira note issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by soiling it with her nose sometime in 2022.
The actress pleaded guilty when the charge was read to her in court. Following her plea, prosecuting counsel Musa Isah presented the facts of the case and urged the court to convict and sentence her accordingly.
In her address to the court, Inuwa appealed for leniency, stating that she was a first-time offender and had shown genuine remorse for her actions.
Justice Shuaibu sentenced her to six months imprisonment but granted an option of a ₦200,000 fine.
The conviction underscores the strict enforcement of laws against currency mutilation in Nigeria.
