Kano Censors Board Shuts Down Event Centres, DJ Operations for Ramadan

The Kano State Censorship Board has announced the immediate suspension of all entertainment activities across the state, ordering the closure of event centres locally referred to as gala houses and operations of Disc Jockeys (DJs) for the duration of the forthcoming holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, confirmed that the directive takes effect from Wednesday, 18 February 2026.

“Effective from Wednesday, 18 February 2026, all such venues will remain closed until the end of the holy month of Ramadan,” the statement read. “The directive will take effect from 10:00 p.m. on that day.”

According to the board, the measure is aimed at creating an enabling environment for residents to observe the Ramadan fast and engage in religious activities without distractions.

The statement further noted that the closure would remain in force throughout the fasting period. It added that a date for reopening, particularly in view of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, would be communicated in due course.

The Censorship Board urged all stakeholders in the entertainment sector to cooperate with the directive, emphasising that the action is in line with its mandate to enforce regulations governing entertainment and social activities in the state.

It also called for compliance with the laws establishing the agency, while expressing hope that the holy month would be marked by peace, devotion, and spiritual fulfilment for all residents.
