Kano Police Arrest 244 Suspects, Recover Firearms, Drugs

The Kano State Police Command has arrested 244 suspects in connection with major violent crimes and recovered multiple firearms, stolen vehicles and large consignments of illicit drugs across the state throughout August 2026.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed these operational breakthroughs during a comprehensive press briefing held on Monday, August 31, 2026, at the Command Headquarters in Bompai, Kano.

Reviewing the monthly security situation, CP Bakori stated that proactive policing, intelligence driven raids and continuous border surveillance had led to a noticeable decline in violent crime within Kano Metropolis and surrounding border communities.

The monthly arrest breakdown includes:

Drug trafficking and property theft: 19 suspected drug dealers, seven motor vehicle thieves and 65 other suspects involved in various major offences.
CP Bakori highlighted that ongoing operations had stabilised previously volatile urban areas, including Dala, Kofar Nassarawa, Sheka, Dorayi, Rimin Kebbe and Hotoro, while targeted enforcement continued in Bachirawa, Gobirawa and Tudun Fulani.

Detailing key investigative successes, the police commissioner revealed significant recoveries involving international drug syndicates and gun running networks.

“On August 25, 2026, operatives attached to the Rijiyar Zaki Division intercepted a red Volkswagen Golf 3 at Bajallabe Quarters carrying 13,837 sachets of Tramadol transported from Abuja,” CP Bakori stated.

He added that follow up searches at Rimin Auzinawa Quarters yielded five additional cartons of Tramadol and three cartons of Diazepam, leading to the arrest of a female suspect for concealment.

In total, the Command confiscated more than 17,684 sachets and 614 wraps of illicit narcotics, comprising Tramadol, Diazepam, Pregabalin, Exol and Indian hemp.

On arms interdiction, joint operations by the Dorayi Babba Division and the Anti Kidnapping Squad dismantled a gun running syndicate operating across state borders.

Police recovered three Tokarev pistols and 65 rounds of live ammunition and arrested key suspects in Kano and Kebbi states, including 66 year old Rabi’u Ahmed Kanti.

Addressing upcoming political activities, CP Bakori confirmed that the Command had put in place robust security measures to safeguard campaign venues and Independent National Electoral Commission infrastructure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Following a strategic stakeholder meeting held on August 27 with political party leaders, civil society organisations and electoral bodies, the police chief warned that individuals engaging in hate speech, political thuggery or public disruption would face swift legal prosecution.

CP Bakori commended the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his strategic leadership while expressing gratitude to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and local residents for their sustained support and actionable intelligence.
