Kano State Takes Over Prosecution in Family Killing Case

The Kano State Government has intervened to prosecute the case involving the deaths of a woman and her six children in the Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, a move prompted by significant public concern following the incident.
Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, SAN, made the announcement on Monday, stating the action was directed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to ensure accountability.
Maude described the killings, which occurred last week in the Kumbotso Local Government Area, as a grave violation.
“On the directive of His Excellency, the Governor, my office will take over the prosecution of this case to ensure that justice is not only done but seen to be done,” he said.
Preliminary reports indicate the assailants entered the residence late Saturday morning. The woman reportedly attempted to alert others, but the attackers proceeded before assistance could arrive. Some of the children had returned from school shortly before the attack. It was noted that one of the victims was not her biological child.
The case was initially filed at the Dorayi Divisional Police Office before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, which led to several arrests. The Attorney General acknowledged the police for their swift response.
Maude assured the public of the government’s commitment to a transparent judicial process and due diligence in pursuing the case. He also urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, and to continue supporting security agencies with relevant information.
The government pledged to provide updates as the case develops, emphasizing that those found responsible will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
