KANSIEC Presents Certificate of Return to Ali Musa as Kumbotso LG Chairman

The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has presented a certificate of return to Ali Musa as the substantive Chairman of Kumbotso Local Government Area, complying with a directive from a state high court.

The presentation followed a ruling by a Kano State High Court on Tuesday, which nullified the certificate earlier issued to Alhaji Abdullahi Basaf and declared Musa the duly elected chairman of the council.

Presenting the certificate, KANSIEC Chairman, Prof. Sani Malumfashi, stated that the commission acted within its constitutional mandate to conduct elections and declare winners for local government chairmanship and State House of Assembly positions.

“Our responsibility as an electoral body is clear. We act within the confines of the law, and in this instance, we have complied fully with the court’s directive,” Malumfashi said.

In his remarks, the Kano State All Progressives Congress Chairman, Umar Doguwa, underscored the importance of upholding the rule of law in democratic governance. He noted that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has consistently emphasized respect for judicial decisions, describing such compliance as vital for maintaining peace and stability. Doguwa also called on the newly affirmed chairman to provide inclusive and purposeful leadership at the grassroots level.

Speaking after receiving the certificate, Ali Musa described the moment as a historic milestone for the people of Kumbotso. “This is a historic day for the people of Kumbotso. It is a victory for justice and the will of the electorate,” he said.

Musa pledged his support to Governor Yusuf and assured that the people of Kumbotso would stand by the administration, contributing to its success ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development highlights the role of the judiciary in resolving electoral disputes and reinforces the importance of due process in strengthening democratic institutions.
