Kebbi Commences Construction of New Police Mobile Force Base in Zuru

The Kebbi State Government has officially launched plans to construct a new Police Mobile Force (PMF) base in Zuru. The initiative is part of an ongoing strategy to reinforce security and counter banditry within the Kebbi South senatorial district.

Governor Nasir Idris formally handed over the project site to the contractor during a brief ceremony in Zuru. The symbolic handover was performed by the Emir of Zuru, His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami Gomo III. The land was received on behalf of the State Police Command by Chief Superintendent of Police Abubakar Ambursa, the Divisional Police Officer for the area.

The project fulfills a recent directive by Governor Idris urging security agencies to review and strengthen their operational tactics in response to emerging security challenges across the state.

Speaking at the event, the Emir of Zuru commended the state government’s consistent support for security agencies, noting that the administration has continued to provide essential vehicles, logistics, and financial resources despite broader national security pressures.

“This mobile base will complement the efforts of other security agencies in tackling armed banditry and related crimes across the seven local government areas of Kebbi South,” the monarch stated. He also called on local residents to support government peace initiatives and cooperate with security personnel.

In recent years, parts of Kebbi South particularly communities bordering neighboring states have experienced persistent threats from armed bandits, cattle rustlers, and kidnappers. Authorities expect the new specialized police outpost to significantly improve emergency response times, enhance intelligence-gathering mechanisms, and provide a stronger security presence in vulnerable frontier communities.

The handover ceremony was attended by the Chairman of Zuru Local Government Area, Alhaji Muhammad Bala Isah, along with senior government officials, traditional leaders, and local community stakeholders.
