Kebbi Government Hails Military for Repelling Bandit Attacks

The Kebbi State Government has praised troops of the Nigerian Army and the Theatre Command of Operation Fansan Yamma for successfully repelling coordinated attacks by suspected Lakurawa bandits in Maiyama and Shanga Local Government Areas.
In a statement issued on Tuesday on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris, the government described the operations as a demonstration of gallantry, professionalism, and tactical superiority by security forces combating armed groups in parts of the state.
Security sources revealed that troops engaged the assailants in Maiyama LGA after receiving intelligence reports of an impending attack. The operation resulted in the neutralisation of several bandits, while others were forced to flee.
In a separate operation in Shanga LGA, troops eliminated additional criminal elements, further weakening the network responsible for recent cross-border incursions and attacks on rural communities.
The Lakurawa group, believed to operate along Nigeria’s northwestern borders, has been linked to sporadic raids, cattle rustling, and attacks on border communities in recent months.
The military successes are viewed as part of intensified clearance operations aimed at dismantling bandit hideouts and restoring confidence among residents.
Reacting to the development, Governor Idris stated that the victories demonstrate the effectiveness of sustained collaboration between the state government and security agencies.
“These successful operations in Maiyama and Shanga clearly show that our security forces are on top of the situation. We salute their courage and sacrifice in defending our communities,” the governor said.
He noted that his administration’s consistent provision of logistics, operational vehicles, communication equipment, and welfare support has significantly strengthened field operations.
“We will continue to give our security agencies all the support they require logistics, intelligence and community cooperation to completely eradicate banditry from Kebbi State. The safety of our people remains our highest priority,” he assured.
The government noted that its sustained investment in security infrastructure and intelligence-sharing mechanisms is already yielding results, with increased patrols and rapid response deployments across vulnerable areas.
Governor Idris urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies, emphasising that security is a collective responsibility.
The renewed offensives in Maiyama and Shanga LGAs represent another phase in ongoing efforts to stabilise affected communities and secure farming and trading routes across the state.
