Kebbi Government Insists No Alternative to Governor Idris Amid 2027 Political Moves

The Kebbi State Government has stated there is no viable alternative to Governor Nasir Idris as political alignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris Zuru, said politicians across party lines are recognizing what he termed the “developmental reality” under the current administration.
Governor Idris, a former President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), was elected in 2023 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). His administration has focused on workers’ welfare, infrastructure, education, agriculture, and security, garnering significant grassroots support.
Zuru linked ongoing political defections in the state directly to the governor’s recorded achievements. “There is a growing consensus that Governor Nasir Idris remains the most reliable option for sustainable development,” he stated.
The statement noted that the governor’s commitment to inclusive governance is attracting opposition members, particularly from the Peoples Democratic Party, into the APC. These defections have reportedly increased during the governor’s ongoing thank-you tour across local governments.
While welcoming new APC members, the government emphasized that loyalty and a genuine commitment to Kebbi’s development are essential. It reaffirmed that Governor Idris remains focused on his “Aluta Continua” governance philosophy and is undistracted by early political maneuvers.
