Kebbi Speaker Muhammad Usman Zuru Dies in Egypt

The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Ankwai, has passed away.

Ankwai reportedly died in Egypt on Monday after a brief illness.

Ankwai, who represented the Zuru constituency, was elected Speaker of the 10th Assembly on 8th of June, 2023.

Confirming the development, an aide to the governor on Communication and Strategy, Idris Zuru, described the incident as a painful and shocking loss to both Kebbi State and the nation at large.

“The death of the Speaker came to us as a rude shock. It is a painful loss not only to Kebbi State but to the entire nation,” Idris Zuru said.

The Muhammad Usman Zuru death has left a significant vacuum in the state’s legislative leadership, with officials describing him as a key stabilising figure within the assembly.

Government sources stated that details surrounding the illness remain undisclosed, while efforts are ongoing to finalise official arrangements in consultation with the family.

Idris Zuru added that further information would be released by the state government, including funeral arrangements once discussions are concluded.
