Kogi Govt Hails Tinubu’s State Police Initiative as Generational Reform

The Kogi State Government has commended President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to establishing state police, describing the initiative as a generational reform capable of fundamentally transforming Nigeria’s security architecture.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, the government praised the President for reaffirming his administration’s resolve to decentralise policing during a recent engagement with governors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to the statement, President Tinubu emphasised that state police has become imperative in addressing the country’s evolving security challenges. He noted that decentralised law enforcement would enhance community-based responses, improve intelligence gathering, and strengthen internal security across the federation.

The Kogi government observed that the President’s position comes as the National Assembly continues deliberations on the constitutional and legislative frameworks required to establish state police, describing the move as a strategic step towards long-term national stability.

The statement indicated that the administration of Governor Ahmed Ododo fully aligns with the President’s vision and remains committed to supporting reforms that bring security closer to the grassroots.

The government described the state police initiative as a decisive intervention capable of significantly dismantling insecurity in Nigeria.

Fanwo also commended Tinubu for his ongoing economic and financial sector reforms, describing the proposed decentralisation of policing as a natural progression of the administration’s broader national renewal agenda.

“As a government, we fully align with Mr President’s position and assure him, as well as the leadership of the National Assembly, of our readiness to cooperate with all relevant authorities to make state police a reality,” the statement read.

The government maintained that sustained collaboration between federal and state authorities would not only address immediate threats but also lay the foundation for enduring peace, security, and development across the country.

previously reported that Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to establishing state police as a means of curbing persistent security threats in the country.

Meanwhile, the Kogi State House of Assembly has vowed to give the state police bill an accelerated hearing whenever it is brought before the House for consideration.
