Kogi Poly Suspends Lecturers Over Extortion and Sexual Harassment Allegations

The management of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has suspended seven lecturers as it launches investigations into alleged misconduct, including the unauthorized sale of course materials and sexual harassment.

According to a statement released on Sunday by the institution’s spokesperson, John Onimisi, six academic staff members were suspended on Wednesday for selling handouts and textbooks to students without authorization. A seventh lecturer was suspended separately over allegations of sexual harassment.

The disciplinary actions follow wider concerns regarding misconduct on campus, including reports of sex-for-marks demands, extortion, and resurfacing cult activities. Internal sources claimed some female students facing harassment faced intimidation after attempting to report incidents.

In response, Onimisi confirmed that the polytechnic’s disciplinary committee is actively reviewing all claims and assured that findings and subsequent administrative actions will be made public once the investigation concludes.
