Kogi Seeks Private Support for Education as NGO Rebuilds Local School

The Kogi State Government has called on private individuals and corporate organizations to partner with the state in driving educational development, emphasizing that public resources alone cannot cover all infrastructural needs.

The call was made by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, during an inspection of the newly reconstructed Community Secondary School in Oke Agi, Mopamuro Local Government Area.

The reconstruction project, executed by the Henry Adetayo Foundation, converted the facility into a modern learning center. Fanwo commended the non-governmental organization for demonstrating civic responsibility, describing the project as a lasting investment in the community’s future. He noted that while the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo continues to prioritize education, private-sector interventions remain crucial to filling structural gaps across the state.

During the visit, Fanwo announced that the state government is giving serious consideration to formally taking over the management of the school. He added that the Ministry of Education is currently reviewing the steps required to integrate the facility into the state’s public school system.

To further support the institution, the commissioner pledged N1.75 million in scholarships alongside communication gadgets to enhance teaching and learning activities.

The traditional ruler of Oke Agi, Oba Joshua Are, expressed appreciation to the state government and the Henry Adetayo Foundation, noting that the project is nearly complete ahead of its official commissioning later in the year.

The upgraded school facility includes nine classroom blocks, four administrative offices, science laboratories, a library, a computer lab, an examination hall, and a dedicated solar power system to ensure uninterrupted electricity.
