Kwankwaso Sets Conditions for Possible APC Move

Kano, Nigeria – Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Governor of Kano State and leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has stated he would consider joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) only if clear assurances are provided regarding the continuity of the Kano State government and the welfare of NNPP supporters.
Speaking on Wednesday during a meeting with party leaders and supporters in Kano, Kwankwaso expressed caution, recalling past experiences where his political faction was sidelined after helping to form governments.
“We must first be clearly assured of the future of the Kano State government before we join the APC,” he said. “What will be the fate of our lawmakers and other supporters?”
He emphasized that no concrete guarantees have yet been offered to preserve the NNPP’s political structure in the state.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo and other senior NNPP figures, who reaffirmed their loyalty to Kwankwaso’s Kwankwasiyya movement.
Political observers note his stance highlights internal party divisions and reflects strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 elections, especially amid speculation about Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s own political future.
