Kwara Extends 30% Peculiar Allowance to Media, Agency Workers

The Kwara State Government has approved a 30 per cent Peculiar Allowance for employees of state-owned media houses, agencies, and parastatals who were left out when the benefit was first rolled out to mainstream civil servants.

Acting Head of Service Olufunke Shittu made the announcement on Monday in Ilorin, describing the move as part of continued efforts to promote fairness and inclusion across the public service. She said the decision addresses earlier disparities and ensures all categories of government workers share equitably in welfare reforms.

According to the statement, the allowance will take effect from 1 June 2026, and all affected establishments have been directed to comply fully.

Shittu praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for what she called consistent interventions to improve workers’ living standards and morale. She urged beneficiaries to match the improved welfare with greater dedication to service delivery.

She also disclosed that May salaries had been paid ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to enable workers prepare for the festivities. She extended good wishes to all staff and Muslim faithful, praying for peace and prosperity in the state.
