Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway to Be Tolled After Completion, Says Minister

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has announced that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will be a tolled road once it is finished and officially opened.
Speaking during an inspection tour in Lagos on Saturday, Umahi stated that tolling is part of the project agreement with the contractor, Hitech Construction Company Limited. He emphasized the need for tolling infrastructure to be ready before the highway opens to traffic.
The minister also addressed budget concerns, confirming that the project cost will not increase further despite realignment challenges and other issues, such as shore protection and clearing deep refuse dumps. He noted that a N170 billion increase had already been approved to cover these additional costs.
Umahi stated that the contractor would bear the risks associated with these unforeseen challenges as part of its contribution to national development.
