Lagos Generates ₦1.17tn in H1 2026 IGR, More Than 31 Other States Combined

Lagos State generated ₦1.17 trillion in internally generated revenue (IGR) in the first half of 2026, more than the combined ₦995.88 billion generated by the other 31 states covered by the latest data from Agora Policy and TheCable Index.

Ogun State ranked a distant second with ₦140.57 billion, followed by Enugu with ₦95.62 billion, Kano with ₦60.14 billion, Oyo with ₦55.47 billion and Kaduna with ₦55.15 billion.

Other states recorded much lower figures, including Akwa Ibom at ₦51.43 billion, Kwara at ₦39.11 billion, Abia at ₦35.68 billion and Niger at ₦33.22 billion. Kebbi ranked lowest among the 32 states with ₦6.55 billion.

The figures highlight the huge difference in the revenue-generating capacity of Nigerian states. Lagos’ large economy, concentration of businesses, financial institutions, property activity and extensive tax base continue to give it a major advantage.

However, the data covers 32 states and excludes Delta, Edo, Osun and Rivers. It is also based on pro-rated performance, so it should not be treated as the final full-year IGR ranking for all 36 states.
