Lagos Taskforce Launches Enforcement Drive Along Coastal Road Corridor

The Lagos State Taskforce has conducted a major enforcement operation along the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road corridor, seizing more than 50 commercial motorcycles and arresting 10 vehicles for traffic violations.

The operation, which took place on Sunday, targeted motorcycles operating on restricted routes, drivers moving against traffic (one-way), and illegal structures built along the roadside. Videos of the exercise were shared on social media by Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

According to the update posted, the enforcement is part of continued efforts to maintain order, safety, and compliance along the significant infrastructure corridor. “Over 50 Okadas confiscated for riding on highways under Lagos State law. Ten vehicles arrested to be charged to court for driving against traffic. Enforcement continues,” the post stated.

The action aligns with earlier announcements by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who confirmed in November 2025 that clearance operations were ongoing in the area. Wahab had noted that illegal shanties, makeshift structures, and roadside trading were being removed to prevent drainage obstruction and improve pedestrian movement.

This renewed enforcement comes amid persistent public complaints over rampant one-way driving and unauthorized motorcycle operations on major highways, despite an existing state ban.

Authorities say the drive is aimed at enhancing road safety, restoring environmental order, and protecting the corridor designated for the landmark coastal road project.
