Landlord Detained After Nursing Student Found Dead in Anambra Apartment

Police in Anambra State have arrested a landlord following the discovery of a 23-year-old nursing student’s body in her apartment in Uruezeani, Alor, located within the Idemili South Local Government Area.

The victim, identified as Chiamaka Chilaka, was an ND II student at the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor. A native of Isingu in the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, Chilaka was found lifeless in her room on Sunday afternoon following church services.

Social media footage connected to the incident showed a local cleric in severe distress, mourning the young student. Accompanying reports circulating online alleged that the deceased had previously rejected multiple unwanted advances from her landlord and was involved in a verbal altercation with him shortly before her death.

Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the landlord’s arrest on Thursday. He stated that the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered an immediate, full-scale investigation into the suspected homicide. The case has been officially transferred from the Nnobi Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka.

According to police authorities, crime scene operatives noted clear signs of violence on the victim’s body, including bloodstains and a deep laceration on her thigh. The physical evidence strongly points to foul play.

The student’s body has been transferred to a local mortuary for preservation and an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The police command has assured the public that a rigorous investigation is underway to ensure all individuals involved are brought to justice. Officials are also urging anyone with relevant information regarding the incident to come forward and assist investigators.
