LASUTH Denies Negligence in 34-Year-Old Patient’s Death

The management of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) has dismissed allegations of negligence surrounding the death of a 34-year-old patient whose case has generated discussions on social media.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the hospital expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and clarified that the patient was referred from another medical facility and arrived at LASUTH in a critical condition following a severe domestic accident that resulted in significant blood loss.
According to the hospital, the patient received immediate emergency treatment from a multidisciplinary medical team, including blood resuscitation and a complex vascular surgical procedure aimed at stabilising his condition.
LASUTH stated that despite exhaustive efforts by its medical and surgical personnel and the deployment of all available interventions, the patient succumbed to the severity of his injuries less than six hours after arriving at the facility.
The hospital maintained that comprehensive records of the care provided are available, but noted that details of the patient’s clinical condition cannot be disclosed publicly due to medical confidentiality.
LASUTH urged members of the public to refrain from spreading unverified information regarding the incident, stressing that such claims could cause additional distress to the bereaved family and healthcare professionals involved in the patient’s care.
The management reaffirmed its commitment to delivering quality healthcare services and upholding the highest standards of medical practice.
