Makinde Urges Unity Among Political Team to Sustain Oyo’s Development Beyond 2027

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has called on members of his political team and stakeholders to remain united in order to guarantee the continued development of the state beyond 2027.

The governor made the appeal during a meeting with political stakeholders held in Ibadan on Friday.

In a statement released on Saturday, his Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, quoted Makinde as urging party leaders, stakeholders, and candidates for elective offices in 2027 to stay together to sustain the achievements recorded by his administration since 2019.

The governor noted that while some individuals had praised him for raising governance standards, the successes should be credited to the collective efforts of his team.

He warned against allowing political ambitions to create divisions, pointing out that only a few of the 51 elective positions in the upcoming general elections can be occupied, and those elected would still require collective support to succeed.

Makinde described the stakeholder engagement as a continuous exercise, adding that the people of Oyo State had tasked his team with selecting credible candidates capable of sustaining the administration’s programmes.

He expressed confidence that the team would replicate its electoral successes of 2019 and 2023 in 2027, but stressed that unity must be maintained to avoid disruption.

The governor called for peacebuilding and vigilance against misinformation and disinformation that could destabilise the group.

He also reflected on his political journey, noting that his original ambition was to become a senator, but God’s will placed him in the governor’s position. He urged team members to watch out for one another and be their brother’s keeper.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal; Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin; along with other top government officials, lawmakers, and political stakeholders.
