Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has pledged to intensify security across the state following a deadly attack on forest guards in Old Oyo National Park earlier this month.

Speaking at the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony in Ibadan on Thursday, the governor condemned the killing of five National Park Service officers at Oloka, Oriire Local Government Area. He vowed not to leave any stone unturned in ensuring safety across the state.

Makinde also announced plans to establish a welfare scheme for the families of the slain guards. He commended the armed forces for their role in securing the state and promised continued support for wounded soldiers, widows, and dependents of fallen heroes.

“It is not the time to play the blame game. We will ensure every inch of this state is safe and secure,” the governor said.

The interim chairman of the Nigerian Legion in Oyo, Julius Alabi, praised the state and federal governments for supporting veterans and their families.

The event featured the laying of wreaths, a 21-gun salute, and prayers for fallen heroes. Several dignitaries attended, including traditional rulers, top military officers, and state officials.
