Man Announces End of Five-Year Marriage, Cites Past Hurts and Irreconcilable Differences

A Nigerian man, Ebikedoumene Bonny Jeff, has publicly announced the dissolution of his marriage to his wife, Yinlayefa, citing years of unaddressed personal hurts and prolonged marital friction.

Jeff disclosed the separation in a social media statement published on Saturday, August 8 a date that would have marked the couple’s fifth wedding anniversary.

Reflecting on their history, Jeff detailed how the relationship began in 2008 in their hometown, leading to the birth of their daughter in 2011. He praised his estranged wife for her loyalty and support, noting that she carried the household financial responsibility during his university education and job search, including funding expenses through her position at the Federal University, Otuoke.

According to Jeff, the marriage began to break down following a series of emotional setbacks, including a tragic pregnancy loss shortly after their August 2021 wedding. He acknowledged that past regrets, alongside an incident where he unfaithfully connected with another woman on social media, created severe trust issues and persistent conflict that the couple could not overcome.

Jeff noted that prolonged periods of emotional distance and internal conflict eventually made the relationship unsustainable. He explained that both parties ultimately agreed to separate peacefully, prioritizing their mental well-being and safety over remaining in a troubled union.

Despite the split, Jeff expressed deep gratitude for his former partner’s contributions to his life, describing her sacrifices as memorable and wishing her well in her future endeavors.
