Man Arrested for Alleged Murder of Girlfriend in Anambra

A 26-year-old man, Chibuike Anikpe, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command for the alleged murder of his 35-year-old girlfriend, Ogochukwu Mmadubugwu.
The incident occurred in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area. According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was apprehended on January 7 by operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka.
Ikenga stated that Anikpe confessed to stabbing the victim in the neck on December 9, 2025. He cited suspicions of infidelity and significant financial distress from his investments in the relationship as motivations for the attack.
The police dismissed circulating rumors linking the crime to debt, confirming the suspect’s account. It was also revealed that Anikpe allegedly left a fabricated letter claiming he was kidnapped by creditors in an attempt to mislead investigators.
The command has visited the mortuary where the victim’s body was deposited as investigations continue. The public is urged to resolve disputes through lawful means and report signs of domestic violence to prevent such tragedies.
The suspect will be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation.
