Man Expands Family to Three Wives Through Kano Mass Wedding Scheme

A beneficiary of the Kano State Government’s state-sponsored mass wedding scheme, Dantani Aruba, has shared his satisfaction after marrying a new bride through the initiative, bringing his total number of wives to three.

Speaking during the state-organized ceremony over the weekend, Aruba highlighted that the initiative enabled him to expand his family without facing the heavy financial burden typically involved in funding a marriage.

Aruba was among the participants in the latest edition of the mass wedding programme, sponsored by the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. The project allocated ₦1.5 billion to support 1,500 couples across the state. Coordinated by the Kano State Hisbah Board, the social welfare scheme targets low-income individuals, including widows, widowers, divorcees, and young adults.

The financial package provided by the government covers dowry payments, household furniture, essential food supplies, and financial empowerment support to help newlyweds establish their households.

First introduced in 2012 to assist vulnerable residents, the mass wedding initiative, locally known as Auren Gata, has grown significantly over the years, with recent editions continuing to accommodate polygamous marriages in accordance with Islamic tradition.
