Man shot dead in Lagos over alleged business dispute

A man identified simply as Golden has been shot dead by unknown assailants in the Igando area of Lagos State.

According to a police source who spoke on Thursday, the incident occurred on Tuesday in the Fatoki area of the community. Two assailants reportedly rode into the area on a motorcycle in search of the victim. After locating him, they allegedly shot him.

Police operatives were deployed to the scene, where the victim was found lying lifeless in a pool of blood. He was taken to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead, and his body was later deposited in a morgue.

The police could not immediately disclose the motive behind the killing but said an investigation was ongoing.

Meanwhile, an anti-cultism advocacy platform, Confra Naija, in a post on Thursday, stated that the incident was business-related. According to the platform, although two cult groups were mentioned in connection with the event, sources confirmed the attack was not cult-related but stemmed from a dispute over “Yahoo money” a term often used locally to refer to proceeds from internet fraud.

The platform added that Golden was sitting outside when the attackers entered the street on a motorcycle and shot him in the head.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, were unsuccessful, as calls to her telephone lines went unanswered and a text message had not been replied to at the time of filing.

The killing comes barely five days after a shawarma vendor identified simply as Andy was shot dead by suspected cultists in the Sangotedo area of Lagos.
