Massive Shake-Up in Delta Police as IG Moves 50 Senior Officers Following Extrajudicial Killing

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the immediate mass transfer of no fewer than 50 senior police officers from the Delta State Command to other formations across the country.
The redeployment comes barely two weeks after the alleged extrajudicial killing of an upcoming musician, Oghenemine Mena Ogidi, also known as OG Million, by a police officer in Effurun, Delta State.
Ogidi, 28, was allegedly shot dead on April 26, 2026, by Assistant Superintendent of Police Usman Nuhu, a former member of the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad in the state. The aspiring artist had gone to Effurun Main Park along Sapele Road to collect a waybill. Park officials reportedly asked him to open the parcel after demanding an additional fee due to its weight. Inside the package, a Beretta pistol with four live rounds was discovered.
Ogidi explained that a friend had asked him to pick up the package on his behalf and pleaded for mercy. Despite his hands and legs being tied, he was shot at close range by ASP Nuhu, who has since been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force after a disciplinary committee found him guilty of extrajudicial killing.
A circular dated May 3, 2026, from the Force Secretary’s office at the Inspector-General’s headquarters listed the affected officers for redeployment from Delta State to other commands and formations, including Enugu, Edo, Anambra, Imo, and Abia states, with immediate effect. The affected ranks include Chief Superintendents of Police, Superintendents, and Deputy Superintendents.
The circular did not state the reason for the mass transfer. Efforts to confirm whether the redeployed officers have been replaced were unsuccessful.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, declined to comment, stating that the Force Headquarters is in the best position to address the issue.
