Morocco Advances to AFCON 2025 Quarter-Finals After Tight Victory Over Tanzania

The Atlas Lions secured a place in the quarter-finals of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2025 with a hard-fought 1–0 win over Tanzania on Sunday. Brahim Díaz’s second-half strike was the difference in a tense Round of 16 match played in Rabat.
Morocco dominated possession but faced resilient defensive organization from Tanzania, which held the hosts scoreless through the first half. An early goal by Ismail Saibari was disallowed for offside after a VAR review, adding to the home side’s frustration.
The breakthrough finally came in the 63rd minute when Díaz cut inside from the left and finished from a tight angle, sending the home crowd into celebration. The goal marked his fourth of the tournament, making him the current top scorer.,
Despite maintaining pressure, Morocco was unable to add to its lead, while Tanzania fought until the final whistle without finding an equalizer.
Morocco will next face the winner of the South Africa vs. Cameroon match in the quarter-finals, to be held at Rabat’s Stade Al Madina.
