Mulade Sues NDC, Demands N5bn over Warri Reps Ticket Dispute

A prominent Niger Delta environmentalist and peace advocate, Chief Sheriff Mulade, has slammed the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) with a N5 billion damages claim following the party’s decision to substitute him after he emerged winner of its House of Representatives primary for Warri Federal Constituency in Delta State.
Mulade, who is the Ibe-Sorimowei of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, described the party’s action as shocking and unacceptable, alleging that the NDC abandoned the outcome of a duly conducted primary election in favour of what he called an “unknown selection and appointment process.”
Speaking with newsmen on the development, the human rights activist said he was surprised that a newly registered party which many Nigerians had viewed as a credible alternative could allegedly discard democratic principles.
“We were taken aback by the newly registered party, the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, which many Nigerians considered to be a saviour and messiah to address the numerous challenges confronting our dear nation. Little did we know that the NDC vehicle we boarded was mainly for what looks more like placeholders, gambling with Nigerians’ future,” he said.
Mulade maintained that he had great respect for the party’s leadership, particularly its National Leader, , but alleged that the leadership had become overwhelmed by financial interests.
According to him, “NDC cannot adopt such an unspeakable level to appoint a flagbearer when a winner has emerged from a lawfully and validly conducted party primary.”
The activist further accused political parties of repeatedly disappointing Nigerians through undemocratic practices, stressing that the country’s electorate had become weary of politicians and parties that manipulate electoral processes.
“It is imperative to state that Nigerians are tired of political parties who continue to gamble and trick Nigerians during every election cycle. Our political party will be purpose-driven with genuine ideologies to salvage and develop the nation for the betterment of its citizens if there is an independent candidature,” he stated.
Mulade appealed to the leadership of the NDC to reverse its decision and uphold what he described as the integrity of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said the party stood at a critical moment in its history and must take steps to redeem its image across the country.
“I want to strongly believe that the NDC vehicle for the 2027 general elections is not intended as a ‘one chance’ for many Nigerians, but a veritable political vehicle designed for salvaging our battered country,” he added.
The NDC leadership had yet to officially respond to Mulade’s allegations and the reported N5 billion damages claim as of the time of filing this report.
