NAF Airlifts Electoral Materials For Ekiti Guber, By-Election

The Nigerian Air Force has successfully completed the deployment of sensitive electoral materials across the country ahead of the Ekiti State governorship election and several legislative by-elections scheduled for June 20, 2026.
The secure transport operation, conducted between June 15 and 16, was executed following a logistical request from the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure all sensitive items were moved safely from the federal capital to their respective destinations within the required timelines.
The logistical mission covered materials for the off-cycle governorship election in Ekiti State, as well as crucial senatorial by-elections in Enugu North, Nasarawa North, and Rivers South East districts. The transport network also delivered materials for federal constituency by-elections in Dawakin Kudu/Warawa in Kano State and Zuru/Shanga in Kebbi State.
Utilizing strategic airlift capabilities, aircraft transported the secure assets from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja directly to regional airport hubs in Enugu, Rivers, and Kano states for onward distribution.
Military leadership commended the flight crews and support personnel for their professionalism during the multi-state deployment, noting that the operation underscores the military’s constitutional role in supporting civic institutions and national development. The timely delivery of these assets is considered a critical component in maintaining public confidence and ensuring the smooth rollout of the voting process.
In Ekiti State alone, 13 political parties are set to contest the gubernatorial seat across 16 local government areas, spanning 117 registration wards and more than 2,000 designated polling units.
