NEPC and Staff Union Refute Impending Strike Reports, Reaffirm Industrial Harmony

The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and its staff union have jointly dismissed online reports alleging an impending strike action, describing the claims as completely false and confirming that the council maintains peaceful industrial relations.

The clarification was issued following a joint meeting between NEPC management and the leadership of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), NEPC Unit. In a statement released on Monday by Head of Corporate Communications Aliu Sadiq, the council urged exporters, trade partners, and the public to disregard rumors of labor unrest.

Addressing the situation, ASCSN NEPC Unit Chairman Moruf Ogunlana affirmed that the union neither authorized nor contemplated any strike, distancing the labor body from recent online publications and expressing continued cooperation with management.

Management also addressed separate reports regarding staff postings and internal governance, denying allegations of illegal directorate appointments, nepotism, or favoritism. The council clarified that no new directors were appointed and emphasized that Executive Director and CEO Nonye Ayeni remains focused on strengthening internal capacity and expanding career progression pathways for existing personnel.

Highlighting recent operational milestones under current leadership, the council pointed out that Nigeria achieved a record $6.1 billion in non-oil export value in 2025 the highest annual figure since NEPC’s establishment. The agency reiterated its commitment to driving non-oil export growth and supporting local businesses through international certification and skill acquisition programs.
