NERDC Denies Requesting Financial Support for Revised Basic Education Curriculum

The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) has issued a formal disclaimer regarding a fraudulent document soliciting financial support for the printing and distribution of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum ahead of the 2026/2027 academic session.

The Executive Secretary of the Council, Professor Salisu Shehu, characterized the letters circulating in public spaces as unauthorized, urging government institutions, school management boards, and development partners to disregard them.

Addressing the issue on Monday, Shehu stated that the agency has made full administrative and financial provisions through established federal and state educational structures to handle the printing and rollout of the revised curriculum without external fundraising.

“The Management of NERDC hereby strongly and unequivocally disclaims any document or correspondence, under any guise or arrangement, requesting support from any institution for the production, printing, and distribution of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum,” Shehu declared, adding that official communications will remain strictly restricted to verified agency channels.

The clarification follows recent efforts by the Council to update the national curriculum, incorporating foundational literacy, digital skills, civic education, and entrepreneurship into the basic education framework scheduled for implementation in the 2026/2027 academic calendar.
