The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Dr Ayo Abdulrahaman as the league’s new Chief Operating Officer (COO) with immediate effect.

The federation announced the appointment in a post published on its official website on Friday, the same day the 2026/27 NPFL season commenced with the opening fixture between Shooting Stars and newly promoted Inter Lagos at the Adamasingba Stadium in Ibadan.

Abdulrahaman holds a doctorate degree in sports administration and brings extensive experience in football organisation and administration, having worked across various leagues.

The NFF’s interim General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, said the appointment followed a directive issued to officials of the various leagues to vacate their positions.

“Ikpeme said Abdulrahaman’s appointment arises following the directive on Thursday, 27th August to all Board Members and Chief Executive Officers of the various Leagues, as well as the Chief Operating Officers who are not members of NFF Staff, to vacate their positions.”
