Nigeria Approves ₦19 Billion to Restart Long-Delayed Kano-Gwarzo-Dayi Road

The Nigerian Federal Government has approved ₦19 billion for the revival of the stalled Kano–Gwarzo–Dayi road project, clearing the way for construction to restart after a three-year halt.

Senator Barau Jibrin, the Deputy President of the Senate, announced the approval on Friday via his official Facebook page. He stated that the funding is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes impactful infrastructure projects nationwide.

The decision followed a recent meeting in Abuja between the senator and the Deputy Managing Director of the contractor, CGC Nigeria Limited, Lv Haiming, where outstanding issues blocking the project were resolved.

Jibrin confirmed that all arrangements are now complete and the contractor is fully mobilized to return to the site. He emphasized the road’s importance as vital infrastructure connecting multiple communities in Kano State and neighbouring areas, stating its completion will boost transportation, economic activities, and overall quality of life for residents.

Originally launched in June 2021, the project involves upgrading approximately 100 kilometres of road into a dual carriageway. Work had been stalled despite an initial award of ₦62.7 billion, leading to widespread frustration among local communities, who had previously threatened protests over the abandonment.

The senator reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the timely completion of such essential projects in partnership with the current administration.
