Nigerian Army Detains Corporal for Assault on Junior Colleague

The Nigerian Army has detained a military policeman after a video circulated showing him physically assaulting a junior colleague at a checkpoint in Borno State.

The soldier, a Corporal attached to the 273 Tank Battalion in Jakana, was seen in footage published by Harmattan cradle  slapping and intimidating the junior officer, identified as Private Solomon Adue. An army source stated that the Corporal accused Adue of speaking with his girlfriend earlier in the day near the Jankana police station.

Following the video’s publication and widespread circulation, the Corporal was reportedly handcuffed, had his phone confiscated, and was initially held by the unit’s Commanding Officer. He has since been transferred to the military police headquarters in Maiduguri for further investigation.

The Army has yet to issue an official statement on the incident or potential disciplinary measures.
