Nigerian Army Holds Free Medical Outreach for Osun Residents

The Nigerian Army Depot in Osogbo, Osun State, conducted a free medical outreach program for local residents on Saturday as part of the activities marking the 2026 Army Day celebrations.

The event, hosted at the Light and Life School in Beredun, aimed to provide humanitarian support and strengthen the relationship between the military and the local community. Representing the Commandant of the Army Depot, Brig.-Gen. Buhari Madaki, Colonel Mathew Obi stated that the outreach is a way of giving back to the community and honoring the memory of Nigerian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the First and Second World Wars, as well as the Nigerian Civil War.

The medical team, led by the acting Commanding Officer of the Depot Medical Centre, Major Jonathan Edimek, provided a range of services, including general medical consultations, eye exams, dental care, and treatment for common ailments such as malaria and skin conditions. Major Edimek noted that the initiative is designed to increase public awareness of the military’s presence and its commitment to civilian welfare.

“This is to strengthen the civil-military relationship with our host communities,” Edimek explained. He added that while the outreach provides immediate care, patients requiring more complex medical intervention would be referred to established facilities, including Federal Medical Centres and the Army Depot’s own medical center.

The event drew praise from local traditional leaders, including the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdur-Raaheed Olabomi, who attended as the guest of honor. He commended the military for their role in community development beyond their primary security responsibilities and encouraged residents to take full advantage of the healthcare services provided.

Military officials indicated that they intend to rotate such community-based health programs to other areas in future editions.
