Nigerian Cloud Engineer Sets Record in Abuja for Longest Coding Lesson

Abel Yakubu, a Nigerian-born cloud engineer based in Germany with NexEdge Technologies, has been officially confirmed by Guinness World Records as the holder of the Longest Computer Programming Lesson. The record-breaking feat took place in Abuja, Nigeria, from November 21 to 23, 2025.

Yakubu led a 60-hour marathon lesson with 30 committed participants and monitored by 20 independent witnesses. “I, Abel Yakubu of NexEdge Technologies, with the support of 30 committed participants and 20 independent witnesses, have been approved as the Guinness World Record title holder for the Longest Computer Programming Lesson,” Yakubu announced.

The achievement demonstrated teamwork, shared belief, proper planning, and unwavering commitment, Yakubu said, appreciating contributors to the record attempt. The three-day programming lesson streamed live on social media, gathering 60 students and over 25 official witnesses, aimed to push skill development and collaboration boundaries.

Yakubu broke the previous 48 hours and 15 minutes global record, running the session from 11 a.m. November 21 to 11 p.m. November 23, 2025. With over 10 years of cloud engineering experience, Yakubu focused on Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.

“I undertook this challenge to inspire young tech enthusiasts to develop strong tech skills, especially as AI adoption rises globally,” he said. Yakubu spent two months preparing physically and mentally, citing overnight sessions as toughest.

He urged young Nigerians to embrace technology, having trained over 200 young people in the past year, and advised parents to encourage digital skills in children.

The Guinness confirmation highlights strategic planning, collective effort, and perseverance, showcasing Nigeria’s growing global technology education potential.
