Nigerian Graduate Gets N14m in Donations After Online Mockery Over Appearance

A graduating student at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ebonyi, Felix Madumere has received over N14 million in donations after being mocked on social media for his appearance.
This comes after an X user, identified as Vector Olal, posted photos of Felix from his final-year project defence with the caption, “I just did my final-year project defence,” and also tagged another post that read, “This is a range bath tweet.”
The second post showed that the first one was meant to mock Felix. Other users also joined in, making fun of how he looked and his age.
But Mercy Ninian, another user on X, shared that she was his coursemate and described the challenges Felix faced while trying to get an education.
She explained that Felix took on different jobs and sometimes slept in classrooms. He was once withdrawn from the university because of unpaid fees and a low CGPA, but he came back after retaking JAMB.
“If you know him, you won’t catch cruise with him. This boy will fetch water, wash other students’ clothes, hawk peanuts, sleep in classrooms,” she wrote.
“Because he wasn’t able to pay his school fees the first time he got admission and couldn’t meet the CGPA, the school withdrew him; still, he wrote JAMB and came back. Kudos to Felix.”
Ninian’s post sparked several reactions, with some users applauding Felix for his resilience and others calling for support.
This eventually led Wizarab, an influential figure on X, to share Felix’s bank account details for financial support after personally donating N100,000. Other X users then started chipping in with their own donations.
As of Thursday, Wizarab shared an update with a screenshot of Felix’s account balance, which is now at N14,179,421.

He thanked those who contributed to the fundraiser, saying what started as mockery had turned into a miracle, and added that Felix would receive guidance on financial investment to secure his finances.
