Nigeria’s Imadu Elected Vice President of African Boxing Congress

Nigeria has solidified its position as a leading sports administrator in Africa, with the successful inauguration of the African Boxing Congress in Lagos.

The event, held on December 28, saw key officials elected to lead the continental body, including Solomon Kargbo of Sierra Leone as president, and Nigeria Boxing Federation’s Vice President, Omonlei Imadu, as vice president.

The congress, attended by over 30 African countries, marks a significant milestone in strengthening governance, unity, and global competitiveness in African boxing. Other elected officials include Anta Gueye (Senegal) as second vice president, Cyprien Tamo Tamo (Madagascar) as Secretary General, and board members from Sudan, Ghana, Botswana, and Somalia.

The congress announced plans for the inaugural African Boxing League in 2026, aiming to boost the sport’s growth and competitiveness. Newly elected president Kargbo pledged to support national federations and promote African boxers globally, while Imadu expressed optimism about Africa’s boxing future, highlighting Nigeria’s role in the decision-making process.

The African Boxing headquarters will be established in Lagos, Nigeria, as part of the congress’s resolutions. The event showcases Nigeria’s commitment to sports development and its growing influence in African sports administration.
