NLC Protests Nationwide Insecurity in Anambra, Demands Govt Action

The Anambra State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) took to the streets on Wednesday, joining the nationwide protest against the escalating insecurity in Nigeria. The protest rally, which began at 11:05 am, commenced at the NLC Secretariat at Regina Caeli Junction and culminated at the UNIZIK Junction in Awka, with representatives from all affiliated bodies of the union in attendance.

Addressing the crowd, Humphrey Nwafor, Chairman of the NLC in Anambra State, emphasized that the protest was aimed at drawing the Federal Government’s attention to the deteriorating security situation across the country. Nwafor described the action as a “collective cry of anguish and a patriotic call to action” over the worsening insecurity in Nigeria.

“We can no longer remain silent in the face of relentless bloodshed, kidnappings, banditry, terrorism, communal clashes, and other violent crimes that continue to threaten lives, livelihoods, and national cohesion,” Nwafor stated. “The Nigerian worker is scared, and it’s time the government takes concrete steps to address the situation.”

Nwafor emphasized that the NLC considers the protection of lives and property fundamental to productivity, economic stability, and social progress, adding that a nation that cannot guarantee the safety of its citizens cannot sustain development or secure a dignified and prosperous future for its workforce.

The protest highlights the growing concern among Nigerians over the increasing wave of insecurity, with citizens living in fear of attacks, kidnappings, and other forms of violence.
